First World Cup win for our team - Trek Future Racing
- Björn takes his first World Cup win in short track in Val di Sole, Italy
Emilly on the podium for the 5th time -
The joy was overwhelming when Björn crossed the finish line first in the short track at the World Cup in Val di Sole and secured the first World Cup victory for Trek Future Racing. It was exactly the same place where Mona Mitterwallner won the World Championship title for the team exactly 2 years ago. It was also the 8th time this year that an athlete from our team stood on the podium.
Emilly was heralded as the "Queen of Consistency" at the race, as she has been the most consistent athlete on the racing circuit since April 2023. And she proved her stamina and strength once again in Val di Sole.
"It is precisely this consistency that makes the difference and shows that we are on the right track with our long-term development concept. Emilly and Björn came to us two years ago - they were young athletes in whom we saw great potential. We started working with them and said: 'Stay patient and trust us ... it will be worth it'. And it has. We are incredibly proud of that as a team," says Sven Meyer, our passionate head coach.
The first World Cup triumph was preceded by an intense, hard-fought race that was only decided on the last lap. Björn made a bold move at the right moment, supported by brilliant team tactics.
Tobias, who was also in the leading group and ended up in 7th place, positioned himself perfectly and ensured that the gap to his team-mate could not be closed immediately.
In the women's short track race, it became clear a little earlier who would claim the places on the podium, and in the end it was World Cup leader Kia Böhm who won the sprint. Emilly finished in 3rd place and secured a place on the podium for the 5th time.
On Sunday, the next race was traditionally on the program. The starting gun sounded early in the morning in cold, wet weather and very difficult conditions. The course was soaked, the mud challenged both equipment and Rider , and the slippery roots and stones were terrifying. It required immense physical strength and mental fortitude, and Emilly was once again in an excellent position in this race. But a small riding mistake had big consequences: Emilly had to make a pit stop while lying in 2nd position and the dream of a podium was unfortunately over. In the end, Emilly finished in 8th place.
"I lost almost 2 minutes due to a technical defect and still made it into the top 10 - I'm proud of that and looking forward to next week. I've learned over the last 2 years that mental strength is crucial, especially after a defect," said Emilly after the race. Giuliana had a stroke of luck and dislocated her shoulder in a fall.
The performances of our young talents Lea and Natalia, who finished in the top 20 in both races, are also very pleasing.
In the final U23 boys' race, Björn was once again able to secure a place on the podium, finishing just behind his friend and former teammate Amos Riley in second place.
"For the first time this season, we competed with all 8 athletes and I am over the moon with the results. I am particularly proud that my team and our partners are supporting our path of sustainable development. The health of the athletes and their long-term development as well as the training of the athletes are the central content for me," said our proud team manager Bernd Reutemann.
